| Reading |
The Carden reading program at Grade 2 is designed to enable students to read with expression and comprehension. The primary vowel chart is continually used, expanded and emphasized. The students recite the consonants and vowel sounds daily. Reading is taught in small groups. |
| Spelling |
The purpose of the Carden spelling method is to teach children to listen to a word, break it down into its individual sounds, and construct the word sound by sound. The vowel chart assists them in sounding out new words. They are taught the primary vowel "controls" which govern the pronunciation and spelling of words. |
| Language and Writing |
Students write questions about the sentences answering who, doing, what, when, where, and why. The sentences are analyzed for content, grammar, and vocabulary development. Students also locate the key words and compose titles for each sentence. Our dictation paragraphs are based on various subjects. |
