After School

The Carden Curriculum is based on the premise that the student should understand what he is learning, not just accumulate facts through memorization. The entire curriculum is sequential and integrated from the earliest grades through the eighth. Skills that develop good study habits, critical thinking and self-discipline are incorporated into each area of study. The foundational building blocks of a subject are presented in the early years and are further developed in each grade.

In addition to the emphasis on the interrelationship of the content of subjects presented, the Carden Curriculum ensures comprehension by unifying the language arts - reading, spelling, composition, and paragraph analysis. Because of the success children achieve in the language arts, teaching time is released for a broadened curriculum.

Our teachers focus on how the child learns, with individual attention as keynote, and strive to create an environment that is both stimulating and enjoyable. This appreciation for individuality restricts rivalry and pressure; thus, sparing the child nervous strain and tension because competition is not part of the learning experience. A cheery, calm atmosphere is maintained in which the child develops powers of concentration and works in a relaxed manner.
